The centurion was responsible as a superior for the training and equipping his legionaries. He had the right to award his people and punish; for the latter, the grapevine (vitis) was also used extensively, he wore as a sign of his rank to himself. In addition, equipment and uniform of the centurions of which of the teams, most notably by the cross borne crest (crista transversalis), greaves and worn on the left sword distinguished.
